Madonna to Direct Her Own Biopic
Over the years, Madonna has had her share of film experience both acting and directing in various movies. Now the singer has announced she will be directing her own biopic. She will be collaborating with writer/producer Diablo Cody on the script. The movie will be coming out under the Universal Pictures umbrella.
"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer -- a human being, trying to make her way in this world," Madonna said of the film in a statement. "The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
The film is yet untitled and no set timeline or cast has been announced. It will be chronicling Madonna’s life from her Catholic upbringing in Michigan to her move to New York and her consequential rise to stardom.
Amy Pascal, the producer who collaborated with Madonna on the 1992 classic, “A League of their Own” has also been brought onboard for the project. Here’s what she had to say about the film. “This movie is an absolute labor of love for me. I have known Madonna since we made A League of Their Own together, and I can’t imagine anything more thrilling than collaborating with her and Diablo on bringing her true-life story to the big screen with [Universal executive] Donna [Langley] and our partners at Universal.”
Madonna’s work on the film will not mark her directing debut. She also directed the films “W/E”, “Filth and Wisdom” and “Secret Project Revolution”. In choosing to release her own biopic, she follows in the path of other legends like Elton John and Queen.
Although many fans and colleagues will be excitedly awaiting the release of the film, there was one person with negative things to say and that’s current host of Good Morning Britain and well-known outspoken TV personality Piers Morgan.
Following a snippet when Morgan and co host Susanna Reid announced the news of Madonna’s project, Morgan went on a rant calling the singer “embarrassing and pathetic” and commented that she wanted to “act like her boyfriends”. He was referring to Madonna’s well known history for dating younger men. She is currently in a relationship with dancer Ahlamalik Williams who, at 27 years old, is 35 years her junior.
Morgan was quoted as saying on the show, 'She's 62 now going on 20. The act doesn't work. It's embarrassing.
'She doesn't know how to age gracefully. She's trying to act the age of her boyfriends. I think the latest one's about - what is he, 18? They're always older than her kids, I know that.'
Madonna has definitely done some controversial things throughout her career and it is for that reason that many of us will be looking forward to seeing her biopic. Good move Madame X.
