Description

Le Baiser is the fifth studio album of the group Indochine released in 1990. This disc marks the first change in the life of the band which is now in the form of a trio after the departure of his saxophonist Dimitri Bodianski in 1989. After the exhausting year 1988 during which Indochina suffered all the criticism and ensured a long tour that took them to France, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, and Peru in a heavy atmosphere, the trio decided to make a break of several months. During the year 1989, they decide to work on a new album and call on Philippe Eidel, whose work on album 3 they appreciated. He listens to the group that wants to limit the use of machines to make their sound more acoustic. Coming to participate in the soundtrack of Peter Brook's film, the Mahabharata, he is going to be at the origin of the contribution of new instruments such as the little-known Santour and Kemantche (Iranian musical instruments) or the cello and the clarinet. As for the texts, Nicola Sirkis, whose voice has matured, draws heavily on his literary and artistic references by quoting JD Salinger, Man Ray, or Blaise Cendrars and also draws on his own experience in a very intimate tone. and personal, evoking the separation of love in several titles: Punishment Park with the participation of the French actress Juliette Binoche, and More or The worst nights. Listening to this album, Gerard Bar-David of the newspaper Best perceives, in addition to the newfound efficiency, simplicity, emotion, and eclectic music. The success achieved by the album will however fall short of the expectations of the group. Its detractors will not fail to note some erosion of sales. He entered 9th place in the Top Album and will be certified gold by the SNEP one month after its release. To date, 250,000 copies have been sold in France. It has also been distributed in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Brazil, and Spain.
